Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
