Close to a Fifth of Younger UK Adults Using AI for Trip Design, Study Reveals

Based on a new study, around one in five young adults in the UK are using AI tools to plan their holidays.

Generational Divide in Technology Adoption

Although traditional pre-arranged vacations continue to be the most common selection, research reveals that about one-fifth of 25- to 34-year-olds use artificial intelligence like AI chatbots for holiday suggestions.

Conversely, under 3% of those over 55 cite AI as a resource for travel inspiration.

Across the board, one in four of British people continue to prefer printed guides when arranging their holidays.

Growing Confidence in Smart Technology

Industry experts predict the use of artificial intelligence to grow rapidly in the upcoming period.

Almost 40% of respondents indicated they would be confident to allow an AI assistant to book their trips entirely.

Post-Pandemic Travel Recovery

Research presented at a recent tourism conference highlighted that the percentage of British people booking a trip last year has nearly returned to before the pandemic levels.

Roughly 87% of participants surveyed booked a vacation domestically or internationally in the past year.

An increasing percentage of people mentioned a holiday as the primary discretionary spend, prioritized over leisure, gadgets, and other pastimes, even during economic uncertainty.

Artificial Intelligence Integration Increases

A survey carried out in July found that double the number of respondents are utilizing AI for holiday planning than the previous year.

At present, a small but growing share of participants reported they use AI for suggestions, up from four percent in 2024.

Young Holidaymakers and Mental Health

Data additionally highlighted that young adults were the top group to consider a holiday as "crucial for their wellness".

An impressive 90% of these individuals held this view, compared with the 80% across all ages response.

Eco-Friendly Commitments

Young tourists were also twice as likely to select a company, hotel, or destination because of its environmental commitments.

About one in five of 25- to 34-year-olds prioritized green practices, against 10% generally.

Questioning About Eco-Friendly Claims

A number of industry figures expressed reservations about such statements.

Travellers wants to be greener – however if it’s pricier, they tend to reconsider about it.

However, the same expert noted that millennial tourists "are much more conscientious and healthier living than when I was young".

Controversy Regarding Travel in Spanish Destinations

Recent initiatives by Spanish tourism authorities to shift the profile of travellers have led to debate.

The country is hoping to support longer stays and more relaxed tourism through a new promotional effort.

The emphasis is changing from traditional beach holidays.

Ultimately their message, they want a different type of customer – they basically want wealthy individuals.

The leader stated that if a condition for booking a trip is affluence, that is "absolutely disgraceful".

Calls for Control in Tourism

The problems with overtourism in Spain and elsewhere were blamed on "unlicensed tourism" rather than big operators.

This included calls for authorities to regulate cases where rental hosts operate without a official permit, compliance documents, or correct financial reporting.

When property managers are discovered to be without the required permits and tax records, you get fined. If you don’t do that results in serious penalties. All the unauthorized accommodations will be eliminated rapidly.

The message was evident: Hosts should act responsibly, become licensed, and complete the process.
