Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" following a confrontation with a camera operator subsequent to Manchester City's loss at Newcastle this past weekend.

At full time, an emotional Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. That's just me. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"One thing is certain, I stand by my team and club, that’s for sure. Why I support my squad is no doubt – because from my experience to clinch the title we need near-perfect totals, high nineties, or we fall short."

City's Position and Manager's Take

City are third and are seven behind the Gunners after what was their fourth league defeat of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," he conceded. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

When questioned if this meant the quadruple could be achieved, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, did you hear my talk discuss four trophies in December when we won the quadruple? No."

Exchange with Bruno

Regarding his confrontation with Guimarães, the coach explained: "I've known him for many years and post-match, home or away, we converse. Our paths always cross and I always have a good relationship. I love it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind if an opposition manager addressed his squad right after the final whistle. "Not if you talk with respect like I always have done, it's fine," he noted, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, constantly. Goodness, he was involved."

Debatable Calls

The team felt aggrieved that Barrott or the VAR did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle on Phil Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning on Barnes' goal Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Next Big Match

Guardiola will take charge his century in Europe versus Leverkusen on Tuesday. "That's impressive, it means that every season annually," he commented.

City have 10 points after four games of the league phase, and Leverkusen hold five.
