The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
During an event for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union dismissed the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, like Trump, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
However, Farage’s remarks suggested the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … an individual intent that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
During the American gathering, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He stated such groups were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to your online courses. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, provides complimentary classes. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
