Two Victims Revealed in the Ivy League School Shooting as Law Enforcement Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who died in the weekend's violent attack in Providence had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their shooter continued following the discharge by local law enforcement of the only individual of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies on social media, stating: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

An International Student

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.

His name was verified by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a raid at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our city”.

The assailant began shooting inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a police source reported to the media outlet.

Officers that searched the hotel recovered a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the person of interest was arrested, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Regarding the nine injured, one student was discharged from care, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

An educational institution, a independent school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

More Condolences

Tributes were paid to Cook at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A pastor commented, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at Brown she was an incredible light in that institution as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the organization. “Ella was known for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a message. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, companions, and peers and grieve for of his bright future.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the country's seventh most historic university with about 7,300 undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in 2025, according to records.
